May 2008

News from Grafton, Harrys 4th little is due later this months, it is Harrys second litter for Mandy. Also on the weekend Mandy took Katya and Ruby to Brisbane to have hips and elbows x-rayed. All look well for low scores.  On a similar note I took Tua the Lab for her hip/elbow Xrays and she too appears to have good hip/elbow results. Both Katya and Tua will be breed near the end of the year.

April 2008

As a member of the MDBA I am accountable for the general health and genetic soundness of my dogs and their progeny which come from my kennel. With this in mind I had the autopsy of the death of one of my bitches in Sweden reviewed in January 2008. As a responsible breeder with a commitment to excellence I take my responsibility for soundness in temperament and type very seriously and at any hint that there may be any possibility of unsoundness I will investigate the matter openly and ethically.

The bitch in question was Mimbil Little Vixen who passed away in 2005 due to a systemic and cerebral infection. The autopsy completed in April 2005 have since been re-assessed by the Swedish Veterinary Medical Board (small animals) which confirmed that 1) The bitch died of a Cerebreal & Systemic Chronic Infection 2) There was no evidence of any genetic abnormality 3) They confirmed the hypothesis that the bacteria transmitted in the serum of the Borella Tick is probable cause but due to time delay they could not confirm this catagorically.

March 2008

March 14/15

Lee-Ann & Zac ( Mimbil ANZAC COVE) wins Baby in Group three days in a row all under Japanese judges - - woo hoo whata pair!!! Its pretty cool for a Blue to win a class in group with competition.

Well Mimbil Kennels is officially a business and we are producing the K9 Spine Bed - designed to support the spine and hips of dogs, never to sag, and un-chewable this bed will last a dogs life-time - in fact it will last several dogs life times and yous and mine as well!!. We were tired of replacing jute bags that sag, bed frames that break and  we wanted the dogs off the ground where they sleep. Elevating a dog off the groud helps to reduct fleas, worms and the more supportive the bed the better for their hips and backs.  For larger breeds it is very important and also for puppies and the oldies with arthritis or joint problems. Lets face it when you are tired don't you want a decent place to rest?

Our guys when they are young tend to be chewers so we place a fitted carpet or conveyor belting within  the frame but as they get older and more sensible the standard 1m x 700 foam mattress works well and is comfortable.

February 2008

Much to our delight our website has been nominated for an award through the MDBA as well as our beds we wish to humbly thank the people who nominated us for the II MDBA Dog Owners Chioce Award - The Best Dog Related Website and the Best Pet Owners Product for 2007.

January 29 2008

Well the New Year came and went, I slept through the 'party' as per usual. I also worked throughout Xmas/New year. Little has happened this month, Harry appears to be contributing to the gene pool overseas and sperm is being sent to Europe, Katya will be heading back into the ring soon and I am working on the wonder Lab Tua Tahi who is entered in a show at the end of February. The two blue boys are entering the ring one on the 2nd Feb and the other at the end of feb so that is exciting. They both have the fuglies at the moment but that is OK finished off pups rarely go anywhere later. I have added a section on my website under 'Planned Litters and Health' about Cerebellar Abiotrophy (CA). It is am increasing problem and one which requires attention. According to Dr Wilton there reasonable chance of finding the marker this year sometime.

December 31 2007:

Well we are 'child-less' now ... so to speak. Woo-hooo OMG I didn't realised how sleep deprived I have been over the last 2 months. Young Nugget is in his wonderful home in Wodonga and the other boys are settling in well according to all reports! As for 2008 and the dog show/ obedience world:- Well I have next to no plan to enter any shows other than the odd local one with our Lab Tua Tahi. I seriously plan to get Croftie's last pass and get him into open trails asap and hopefully Tua into CCD soon. Gotta find my clicker - its around somewhere. Dixie has become the Matriach of the Mimbil and is firmly ensconsed on the lounge and at the foot of our bed ... thank you very much!!! I feel the ghost of her grand mothr Biddy echoing though the building at times - Dixie is disturbingly similar to Biddy in her behaviours.

Pete and I plan to travel a bit this year, with only 3 dogs it will be easier to take off for the weekend of have our friend 'dog-sit', so we are hoping to do New Zealand or travel the Ghan to Darwin in the winter later this year time money allowing. We need a break, 2007 has been a good but hectic year,  buying and renovating a house, a new job for Pete and full time for me at the rehab plus the Dixie/Ginger litter - very staisfying and very exhausting. I am going to update some info on my website, finish that MDBA course on dog genetics and breeding and read the odd non work or dog realted novel for once plus I have decided to delete the guestbook from my website since most people email me directly.

Pete and I wish all our friend a safe and prosperous 2008 and we look forward to hearing from you all soon.

December 26 2007: Zac is in his forever home at Suthensky's Kennels, you can see Zac and Lee-Anne Symonds other Kelpies from her website on my links page. Lucy is in Jindabyne with Stacey Smith and her partner Matt and their horses, Ned (Flanders) is with the Damian & Amanda Boidin and their 3 children, he is settling in well in Springvale, and Nugget will be collected this weekend by Ian Howard to begin his family life ... meanwhile he is destroying our Xmas tree - terrorising the older dogs and a generally getting himself into mischief ... as Kelpies do!

December 8 2007: Well all 4 boys have been vet checked and all are fit well and health. All the boys have found a 'forever home'  Zac & Lucky are goin to show/obedience homes, Flanders is a family pet and Sapper is going to an obedience/agility/flyball home.

October 2007 Update:

DIXIE HAD HER PUPS!!! Whelped the 25 October 4 beautiful pups - 4 boys, 1 Back and 2 Blue & 1 Red.

Well Pete and I get Married on the 12 of October so that kind of takes precedent over dog showing!!!

Dixie is very much in pup and all is progressing well, they will be due on the 24 October - the other reason I am not showing - and wont be for a couple of months!  Its just too hot over summer and it is cruel IMHO for the dogs.

September 2007 Update

Well Harry and Katya have hit the ring in Coffs Harbour at the beginning of September for a 3 day show. Harry won Challenge Dog each day and Best of Breed on 2 days and Katya won Challenge bitch on the 2 days she was entered and Best of Breed on Sunday beating her dad!

Little miss Tua Tahi trotted out in the Group 3 at Grenfell and won her class - 1 baby bitch in breed. It was her first time in the ring and she handle the pressure and performed happily and well.

Harry and 5 of her bitches have successfully complete the first country temperment test and they all past!!

Tua has earnt her first Challenge points and RUBOB at Canowindra on the 22nd.

August 2007 Update:

Well its starting to defrost here in the Central West and I am beginning to come out of hybernation! Croftie is getting started for trialing again and part of our daily walks involves off lead sit, stand stay, drop, recall, retieve etc. Little miss Tua Tahi is getting conditioned for trialing too. So we walk a couple of laps of the footy oval and and have some fun. Training a Labrador and training a Collie/Kelpie cross is completely different - I have to adjust my methods for both dogs. They keep me thinking and we all get some excercise as well. I might get a trial in for Croftie dog by the end of this year more likely early next year. Tua I hope will be going into CCD Feb/March next year.

As for Harry and Katya they are settling in well in Grafton. Mandy has bred Harry to one of her bitches and hopefully there will be pups in a couple of months. Harry is entered in the new temperment testing which will have him assessed for gun-sureness, crowd distraction, meeting strangers and general handling. Katya cannot compete until she is 18mnths old. The test is similar to the European temperment testing but unlike Europe we won't get any acknowlegement on his pedigree ... which I think is wrong .. but eh what do I know.  As for showing their first conformation show is Coffs Harbour in early September.
